Rebecca Gerrans. Film Studies. Reflective Analysis. Word Count;
We were assigned an independent task of which was to record a 3-5 minute film which included a wide range of MicroFeatures, Mise En Scene and Explicit Camera Angles/Shots. There was no designated genre or selection of themes we had to use, it had to be unique and represent our current skills using a camera, tripod and towards the end a film editor.
For my initial idea I decided to explore the genre of Horror/Thriller, focusing my film idea on Zombie type characters. came across as a simple yet affective way to intrigue viewers. Zombie films/series i had in mind that influenced me was 'The Walking Dead' and '28 Weeks Later'. There are many similarities between these two productions i.e. makeup, settings, plot yet they also have there differences; for example the ''Zombies'' in Walking Dead are slow and motionless yet the Zombies in 28 Weeks Later are a lot more fast and violent, I decided i wanted to include parts of both productions in my film.
I began briefly drafting my idea onto a paper story board to get an over all idea of the plot, camera angles and Mise en Scene i would have to purchase. After furtherly analysing and editing the rough paper copy of the draft i then went on to convert it into a digital story board. Using simple images from the internet the storyboard gave more detail to the narrative and explained in deeper context the current camera angles and shots id need to use.
Once the digital storyboard was created i went on to further develop the written version of the narrative, adding in a Character Development, Possible Settings and a summary of the overall production. going on to then state the predicted audience, possible titles and cast.
One massive problem i faced during this project was the fact my friends who were meant to be staring the main characters throughout the film became busy so i had no current actors. However saying that i managed to change the narrative slightly so my older brothers and their friends could replace the original characters. Although the final outcome was different from my original idea i feel they did good job.
